Hike explores trail at Hobbs

Hill ‘N Dale Hikers will hike Wednesday on the Pigeon Roost Trail at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area. The hike is three to four miles, moderate difficulty.

Park hosts youth anglers

Kids Fishing Day at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Mo., will be Saturday at the park.

An area of the park will be set aside for trout fishing by youngsters 15 and younger. Free trout tags for kids may be picked up Friday or Saturday at the trout hatchery office.

Volunteers will be on hand to help young anglers. Youngsters should bring their own tackle. Adults may assist youths, but may not fish by themselves. Free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Seminars will be held all day Saturday.

Naturalists

sell native plants

Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists will sell native plants from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Springdale farmers market at The Jones Center.

Trees, shrubs, grasses and flowering perennials will be available. Plants are $6 and trees are $17.

Campground

hosts needed

Volunteer campground hosts are needed at six campgrounds on the Buffalo National River. Volunteers get a campsite and live in a park for the season. They work 32 to 40 hours per week assisting campers and helping the park staff with campground operations.

Team wins

tournament

Justin Mounce and Jeremy Mounce won the Cast Masters bass tournament held May 7 at Beaver Lake with five bass that weighed 14.39 pounds. Justin Mounce won big bass with a 6-pounder.

Allen Shannon and Warren Edwards were second with five bass, also at 14.39 pounds. Rocky Hopkins and Travis Fox placed third with five bass at 13.97 pounds.

Hobbs hosts

photo workshop

A workshop for photographers age 14-17 is set for 9 a.m.to noon June 27-29 at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area.

The park and the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas cohost the event. Easy hikes to take photos, hands-on demonstrations and classroom work will take place over the three days.

Cost is $100. Students should bring a point and shoot camera and a photo journal book. Optional equipment may include a single lens reflex camera and laptop with photo editing software.

Bob Coleman with the photographic society is the instructor. For details, contact Coleman at bobcoleman@photo.com or call the park at 479-789-5000. Preregistration and payment are required.

Dedication set

for pavilion

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission plans a dedication at 10 a.m. July 7 of the new fish weighin pavilion under construction at Prairie Creek park on Beaver Lake.

Scales will be available to weigh fish and water tanks are on site to help keep fish alive. Groups may use the facility on a reservation basis. For details call the Game and Fish Northwest Arkansas fisheries office in Rogers, 479-631-6005.
