Parson wins Elite Series tournament
Nicky Parson weighed five bass totaling 16.25 pounds to win the Beaver Lake Elite Series bass tournament held July 15.
Keith Brashers was second with five bass weighing 15.11 pounds. He also had big bass at 5.18 pounds.
Ronnie Eldridge placed third with five bass weighing 12.58 pounds.
Fourth through 10th, all with five bass unless noted, were: fourth Terry Duffel, 11.81; fifth, Dale Marsh, 10.52; sixth, Roger Harp, 9.71; seventh, David Louks, 9.51; eighth, Jared Gobel, 8.62; ninth, Tim Clark (four fish), 8.54; Lane Haymond, (four fish), 7.8.
Most fish were caught with deep-diving crank baits, said James Whittle, tournament director.
Rose duo wins
at Beaver Lake
Ron and Catlyn Rose won the Beaver Lake Guys and Gals bass tournament held the night of July 8 with five bass weighing 10.07 pounds.
Jim and June Long placed second with five bass at 9.87 pounds. Rick and Vicky Johnston were third with five bass at 8.86 pounds. They also had big bass at 3.23 pounds.
Birding trip
set at Eagle Watch
The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a field trip Aug. 5 along Eagle Watch Nature Trail at Swepco Lake near Gentry. Meet in the parking lot two miles west of Gentry on Arkansas 12 at 9 a.m.
Anyone interested in birds is welcome, membership is not required. Trip leaders will be Joe Neal and Terry Stanfill. The trip involves a short, level walk to a viewing pavilion.
Birds to see include two or more kinds of herons, egrets, white ibis, cormorants and songbirds. A rare bird to Arkansas, a neotropic cormorant, has been seen recently at the lake.

Bowhunters host
archery shoot
Cherokee Bowhunters will host a 3-D archery shoot on Aug. 5 at the Fort Crowder archery range east of Neosho, Mo.
