Hoffman, Harp win tournament

Justin Hoffman and Tad Harp won the Cast Masters bass tournament held July 22 at Beaver Lake. They weighed five bass totaling 14.86 pounds.

Rodger Taylor and Mitzi Taylor placed second with five bass at 13.89 pounds. Dylan Mars and Kyle Anderson were third with five bass at 13.57 pounds. Dylan Mars had big bass at 6.84 pounds.

Birding trip set

at Eagle Watch

The Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a field trip Saturday at Eagle Watch Nature Trail at Swepco Lake near Gentry. Meet in the parking lot 2 miles west of Gentry on Arkansas 12 at 9 a.m.

Anyone interested in birds is welcome. Audubon membership is not required. Trip leaders are Joe Neal and Terry Stanfill. The trip involves a short, level walk to a viewing pavilion.

Birds to see include two or more kinds of herons, egrets, white ibis, cormorants and songbirds. A rare bird to Arkansas, a neotropic cormorant, has been seen recently at the lake.

Park hosts

storytelling event

George Washington Carver National Monument will hosts its annual storytelling days on Aug. 25 and 26.

The event celebrates the establishment of the National Park Service and focuses on stories about American culture and history. Come hear the stories about these special places and spaces from these diverse storytellers.

The event is free, and the park is located two miles west of Diamond, Mo., in McDonald County.

Bowhunters host

archery shoot

Cherokee Bowhunters will host a 3-D archery shoot Saturday at the Fort Crowder archery range east of Neosho, Mo.

Shooters may start anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. It is open to archers of all ages and skill levels. Call 417-499-0335 for details.

Agency reviews

wildlife code

Missouri Department of Conservation seeks public comment on all hunting and fishing regulations under the Wildlife Code of Missouri.

Comments may be submitted online at mdc.mo.gov. The department is also holding public meetings around the state to gather comment. A meeting will be held Oct. 10 at Springfield Conservation Nature Center, 4601 S. Nature Center Way in Springfield, Mo.
